The Defence Employers Recognition Scheme recognises organisations who pledge, demonstrate and advocate their support for the Defence community.
Cultura Connect are proud supporters of the Armed Forces Community and have pledged to help provide career advice and support to service personnel, reservists, veterans, the cadet movement and military families, as well as promoting the exceptional transferable skills of the Armed Forces Community to our client base.
The Armed Forces Community can provide invaluable skills to agriculture, food, and forestry sectors. Their military-honed abilities align perfectly with the demands of these sectors offering a wealth of talent for these sectors, including but not limited to:
Leadership and management skills: Military personnel often have extensive experience leading teams and managing complex operations, which translates well to managing teams within our client’s businesses.
Discipline and work ethic: The rigorous discipline instilled in the military aligns with the demanding nature of our industry, which often requires long hours, tough working environments and dedication.
Adaptability and problem-solving: These sectors require quick thinking and the ability to adapt to changing conditions, whether it's weather patterns or operational challenges.
Attention to detail: Precision is crucial in both military operations and this industry, from equipment maintenance to crop management.
Technology proficiency: Modern agriculture and forestry increasingly relies on advanced technology, and many veterans have experience with high-tech equipment and systems.
Logistics and supply chain management: Military experience in managing supply chains and logistics can be valuable in the agriculture, food, and forestry sectors, especially in larger operations.
Physical fitness and endurance: The physical demands of agricultural and forestry work align well with the fitness standards maintained in the military.
Crisis management: Veterans are trained to handle high-stress situations, which can be beneficial during peak times such as harvest or lambing, or when dealing with unexpected challenges like pest outbreaks or equipment failures.
Global perspective: Many veterans have international experience, which can be valuable in understanding global agricultural markets and trade.
Commitment to mission: The sense of purpose and dedication to a mission that is instilled in the military can translate to a strong commitment to food security and sustainable agriculture and forestry.
Teamwork: These sectors rely heavily on effective teamwork and collaboration.
Environmental awareness: Military training often includes understanding and working with various environments, which can be beneficial in agricultural land management, forestry management and sustainable agricultural practices.
The Bronze Award marks the first step in Cultura Connect’s journey as a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant and they are looking forward to engaging further with the Armed Forces Community to promote the opportunities within the agricultural, food and forestry sectors.
Director, Hugh Pocock commented,
“The Armed Forces Community represents a huge opportunity for our sectors in filling the senior leadership gap that we currently face. We are already working with many clients who are open to working with us to employ service leavers, committing themselves to extensive induction programmes and additional CPD for new employees who come with them with limited sector knowledge but with exceptional leadership and management skills.”
If you are interested in developing your team and are open to employing ex military personnel, the Cultura Connect team would be more than happy to offer guidance and support.
