Celebrating 125 Years of Agricultural Excellence at Harper Adams

Following a busy week attending agricultural summits across the UK, our CEO, Hugh, had the privilege of attending the Harper Adams 125th Anniversary Launch last Thursday. Describing it as a "very special day," Hugh felt immensely honoured to represent Cultura Connect at such a significant milestone for one of the UK's premier land-based institutions.

A Celebration of Heritage and Agri-Innovation

The exclusive launch brought together around 200 distinguished guests from across the agricultural, land, and food sectors. Attendees heard inspiring talks from key figures who have shaped the university’s journey over the decades, including Professor Wynne Jones OBE, Dr David Llewellyn CBE, and current Vice-Chancellor Professor Ken Sloan. Each shared insightful perspectives on how Harper Adams has evolved from its founding vision into a global leader in agricultural education, engineering, and sustainability research.

A standout highlight of the event was an address by HRH The Princess Royal, attending in her capacity as Chancellor of the University. Her speech underscored the vital role Harper Adams continues to play in equipping the next generation of agri-food leaders with the skills needed to tackle global food security and environmental challenges.

Royal Elegance Meets Community Spirit

Reflecting on the atmosphere of the day, Hugh noted that the celebration had a distinctively warm and prestigious feel, reminiscent of a grand wedding celebration! Complete with canapés, formal seating, an exquisite three-course meal, and memorable speeches, the event brought together decades of alumni, industry partners, and supporters under one roof (just without the dancing at the end!). But we did have an audience with Harper Alumni members of the recently crowned Britain's Got Talent winners the Hawkstone Choir. A fun and enlightening session on their journey to stardom, including their links to Harper. Soon to be performing at the Royal Variety Performance.

Looking Ahead: 16 Months of Celebrations

This landmark event officially marks the start of a 16-month programme of celebrations commemorating 125 years of Harper Adams. Throughout this extended anniversary period, the university will be hosting various events highlighting its historical contributions and forward-looking innovations in precision farming, robotics, and sustainable agriculture.
